Neal, I think the first link ain't linkin' to the right auction...

Dang Vendio. The second auction's pics are the same as the first auction, but unfortunately the first auction's pics are no longer.

Check out the final price on that first auction, 860 for a style O Martin. You know there were more pics for it to attain that lofty price. I was watching that one. It was pretty minty.

But $860.00 ?!?!

Caveat Emptor.

He's clever he has the wording saying "JUST LIKE the one in the picture" therefore it is not the one in the picture but like it. Obviously he used the better pictures to post instead of the actual uke

When asked if this is the uke...or just like the uke in the pictures:

"It is just like the one in the picture. I have had a few questions about this on here. I just dont' have a digital camera handy to take pictures of it, but it is NICE. But, no these are not the actual pictures of my Uke, I got them from an identical one that was sold last week.

It will be telling if he removes the auction and comes back with pics. I've had some communication with him as well. I get the feeling that inexperience is playing a part, but until the auction changes,

Note the zero feedback.

I wrote in asking about this also using eBay's "question for seller" feature, and I do find it telling that he has not chosen to post the questions in the listing, either from me or from anyone else.'

But notice he's also got seven day money back return posted. That at least is good.

It makes for a tough decision when the seller of a high value item has zero feedback. The most important safeguard of the eBay system is out of the picture. You have to rely on intuition even more than usual.

I don't like it when people use "borrowed" pictures. That eliminates what I consider the most important part of the item description. If there were any condition issues to evaluate, pictures showing them would be mandatory for me. Even here, we have to rely on the seller's statement that there are no issues. Sometimes there is a difference of opinion over that.

In this seller's favor is the fact that he acknowledges they are not pics of the actual item. Being a novice seller, his story is fairly believable.

The return policy doesn't comfort me much. If the item had to be returned it could result in untold hassles.

If I risked bidding on this one, I need a bargain price and would probably not bid high enough to win the auction. It's probably OK, but I just don't have enough information.

Jim
