This past week, through the work of Steve Boisen, our devoted leader, and Randy at Sam Ash Music, Clearwater we had a rousing Ukulele Meet Up with over 50 in the seated audience and many of us on the outskirts. I was talking to my friend John (John in Fl and a friend of John and Debbie King) and he said, "If only John (King) could see this now." John King was a member of TBUS and would of been amazed at the number of ukulele players in the audience. Steve held the audience in his palm, Randy had over 100 ukes on display and gave away many gifts to the group...even t-shirts shaped liked ukuleles!!! And then we had various ukulele players stutt their stuff on stage and great 3 song play along. It was just great. To me, it doesn't get any better than this. Loon

I am sorry to have missed it, sounds like a terrific event. How were the Luna ukuleles?

I honestly don't think John King would have been surprised, he traveled all over to ukulele events for years and years, and saw the growth and popularity grow over the past couple decades. It's wonderful that we have such a group of interested people in our area, and it's to Steve and your credit that it's worked out so well for TBUS. It's really a great club.

Yes, it was quite the event. It wasn't but a few years ago that you would have had trouble finding two ukulele players to rub together in this area. The turn-out that nite was truly amazing. JK would have been in his element and I'm sure he would have wowed the audience. I know he had been wanting to put an event on eventually in the Tampa Bay area. He was pumped and looking forward to the UkeFest that NinaC had put together down in Nokomis last year, and it is such a shame that he never got to do that one.
Kudos to Steve, he really has done a super job of organizing and tireless promotion of the ukulele and the TBUS group. We would be much poorer without his hard work.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your involvement and support. Randy at Sam Ash Music wants to host a ukulele event quarterly so we are going to pick a date in June. It sure would have been great if John King could have joined us for these events.

Nancy, the Luna ukuleles were nice and they gave away a one of a kind zebrawood electric tenor as a raffle prize. The Luna's are well made Chinese instruments like the ones offered by Kala and Ohana, but they have unique design features like laser etching and abalone inlays designed by the company's founder Yvonne who has a background in the visual arts. The sales rep for Kala was there too and they gave away a soprano travel uke. The guy who won it is a local performer named Big Jim Allen who is 6'7" so it was a perfect match. He loves his new uke though and he has already incorporated it in his live show.
