I met a guy this week who told me 3 ukes are enough, I asked him if he had a secret cure for UAS. He didn't divulge his secret.

It is easy to do;only play one kind of songs, none of which call for a banjo sound;a resonator sound; a 6-8 or 10 string sound,or anything below middle C or above the eighth fret, and that can all be done on one soprano or concert. For those times when you want to maintain the fingering but lower it a fourth( as from C to G) one should have a Dgbe tenor. Hmmmmm that's only two. Seems to me that person has UAS and is in denial. :~) Trigger finger ot Carpal Tunnel
Syndrome will cure UAS, but the cure is worse than the malady.

Was his wife standing beside him when he said that?

No. There is no cure.

UAS is like the virus Varicella zoster. This is the virus that causes Chicken Pox. Then after the initial infection it remains in the system and can may remain dormant for years until your immune system becomes weakened - and then it erupts and causes shingles.

UAS is just like that - except the shingles part.

I've been feeling guilty for some of mine and maybe sending them around to....... Never mind - gotta hit Ebay before dinner.

Buy high-end custom ukes and marry a woman with a mean right hook.

There is no cure. Only remission.

I'm with Craig; only my wife loves musical instruments.
I sold a few dozen ukes, and replaced with high ends.
At present count, 3; one on the way.
Only tenors; down to 2 woods only; all koa and/or all mahogany.
Yet I can't help looking... and looking.

At least the ones on the wall (3 high end tenors) are the ones I really love and want.

btw, If I were Jay Leno.... believe me, for the good of humanity, I would have one of every style Martin uke ever made, on display, and I wouldn't sweat the new customs.

I have it bad. First, my self imposed limit was 7 ukes, then 10, and now 15. If a new ukulele comes in, I have to sell one. I have passed over 30 ukes on to others in the last 3 years. To stay within the limit, I have even given ukuleles away. Frankly, if there is a cure for UAS, I don't want to know about it. The foreplay of a new ukulele on the way lights up my beady little eyes. I have OCD, manifested by UAS - wouldn't have it any other way.

If God didn't want people to collect a lotta' ukes, He would have created them bigger.......like pianos! BBT

The guy is lying. Ring him up and tell him that the Nile is not a river in Eqypt.

I used to cite 3 cures, buying high end and thus satisfying the desire for more, poverty and death. I'm not so sure any more. They keep creeping in and I qualify for 2 of the 3.

UAS is really a very complex syndrome with no known cure .

Why would anyone want a cure?
Posted By: coconino Date: 3/21/2010 2:27:14 PM
The cure is always the same - one more!
Posted By: WildChild Date: 3/21/2010 7:54:35 PM
When I'm eating lunch, I am thinking about what to have for dinner. When I get a new uke, I say to myself that I am now satisfied. But like Tiger Woods, I am always looking around. Want becomes need, and the cycle begins again.
