Any guesses as to what the extra strings do?

Hey Linkster,
Thank you very much for always making it easy to view these website suggestions. It is, and I'm sure I speak for all other BB folks, much appreciated.

Those extra strings will vibrate sympathetically even if they are not plucked. They will vibrate in harmony with other like tuned strings. i.e. C with Cs, G with Gs. In the root chord there should be more bass. I question the ability of the human ear to pick up the subtle overtones.

I wonder if the 7 stringed thing is an attempt at do re mi fa so la ti and every chord picks up another string worth of overtone.

Another part of me is just flat skeptical. Just because someone makes something out of beautiful wood is no guarantee it isn't just another snake oil salesman.

Beats shooting an armadillo. Actually, it's very beautiful. I have a similar gourd. Hmm...?

that's some pretty interesting stuff!

As a recovering guitar player, I still (sometimes) reach for the lower two strings - some sort of muscle memory, I quess. I don't think the extra neck is meant to be played, maybe these are two bass notes the maker thinks would come in handy.

In any case it is thought provoking piece of art.

I like the way this guy thinks and I now want a gourd ukulele, or I, at least, want to hear how it sounds.

Thanks Shawn, don't want to build it though. I built a guitar from scratch back in the eighties. It took me the better part of a year and I sold it, cheap, because I knew where every imperfection was, and to call them imperfections is to give my guitar more credit than it deserved.
