Finally got my pics to Catfish for his album.
http://www.catfish1952.com/album37.html . Hope this works! Page 37
What a lineup of great talent at NY Ukefest.
Many I have seen before at different fests so will just list them as my favorites: Fred
Fallin, Shorty Long, James Hill, Lil' Rev, Gerald Ross, The Moonlighters, Craig Robertson, the Fabulous Heftones, Uke Jackson's Radio Aces with Jay Rattman and Jim and Liz Beloff. If you have never seen any of these people on stage, what are you waiting for!
There were so many acts playing on different stages that the choices were difficult. Some new acts that I enjoyed were, Brittni Paiva, Victoria Vox, Ukuladies from Winnepeg, Les Chauds Lapins (who sang in French)and Mad Tea Party.
Now two big surprises for me were The Akamai Brain Collecton with Abe Lagrimas Jr. and the Boulder Acoustic Society with Aaron Keim. I've read about both of these groups but thought I might not like the music of the younger generation. WAS I WRONG! Personality, choice of music, sense of humor and musicianship extraordinaire made both groups exciting to watch. If you see either group on the bill in your area, you owe it to yourself to get there! They earned my "Geezer Award". (That means geezers will enjoy!)
Unfortunately we had to forgo the Sunday schedule and head for home so we missed out on seeing Evy Mayer's "Triboro" group and Sazerac and the Genial Orleanians.
Lastly, since there were no workshops specifically for the bari, my group set up in the entrance hall and played the old songs as people came and went. We had some fun with Dan Scanlon, Konabob and his Walkingstick, Ray Shakeshaft, Brian (Northern Uke)one of the guys from the NJ group (?), Fred Fallin, Neil Murphy, Peter Shebib, Don Peyton and Brian Hefferan who joined us in a few songs. If I've forgotten anyone, it's just a senior moment.
Uke Jackson, thanks for all the work you did. We had a good time! We even got invited by Crystal Field to come back and particpate in a time she is having for the Lower East Side on Memorial Day weekend. Sadly, we had to refuse due to conflicts. See you all at a Uke fest somewhere. Pat |

Hey Pat! I had a great time jammin with you and your folks, that never ending song book should really be published! It would be ideal for uke clubs. See you all at some uke fest!

Pat, It was a highlight of the weekend for me to come by and catch a few songs from your wonderous book. We are dying to have you do a workshop at m.a.u.i. but you guys are always booked! Thanks for the kind words and great pics but mostly for the steady jamming and fellowship that your group provides.

MGM, you sure are a good natured guy. In the midst of all the unpacking and setting up of all the great ukes you brought, you were taking time to meet and smooze with everyone who stopped by your table.
Don, you are one of my favorites, because you add so much to our music with that OMG bass. And to think that you, a seasoned musician, like what we do really makes us feel that we belong. Thank you.
Next year, I hope there will be a MAUI and if so it will be a priority with me.
Northern Uke, thanks for hanging with us and liking our stuff. The theory behind my book is, "Why do one song over 3 times when you can do 3 songs in the same amount of time". This all started out like a contest at the local piano bar to see if we could keep the piano player going. He finally begged us to stop so he could take a break. We gotta keep the old songs alive for the younger generations to learn, cause, who's going to play for me when I'm in the home? I don't want to hear hard rock! Hope we meet again at another wonderful ukefest!
Neil, glad you had some time to sit with us and play your bari. Wish I had heard your open mic!
Uke, glad you liked the shots.
