I got a brand new cigar box ukulele!
Here are some pictures:

And here are two videos. Actually it is the same video, but the audio is different. One version is acoustic recorded with my Zoom H2: http://vimeo.com/1364622 (also on Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=gSJwh2owjAI )
The other took the audio from the internal pickup of the uke: http://vimeo.com/1364625
The ukulele was made by Hans Thring, visit his shop here: http://www.dudelshop.de (but you won't find the Cigar Box ukulele there, he does them only by request!) |

Really cool cigar box 'uku! Love the warning label!
And of course the playing is outstanding as usual...

I listened to both versions all the way through and can hardly tell you which I liked better. I guess the acoustic version was a little sweeter.

Both versions were excellent, but I liked the acoustic sound. I am a bit confused, however. Is there a soundhole at the rosette. From the small photographs, it appears this is primarily an electric instrument. The sound, however, appears to be non-metal strings. Does it have an undersaddle pick-up? Also, did you specify to the builder that you wanted a little wider fretboard at the nut?
Are you saving that habano cigar for me? By executive order of President Bush, Americans are forbidden to smoke Cuban cigars, even if they are outside the United States.

The rosetta is a soundhole, yes. And the strings are nylon (well, fluor carbon. Worth). Of course it is pretty silent when played plain, but it is absolutely okay to play it unplugged.

Oh, and I don't know about the pickup, and I did not ask him to make it wider. The whole head btw comes from Brko, Hans bought it there.

The pickup is a standard Schadow piezo pickup glued under the bridge.
Unfortunately the newer Cohiba boxes are plywood and so the sound is silent.
The older Boxes where from solid cedar wood and they sound pretty good.
Please excuse my bavarian english ;)

Hey du Dudeler, wie gut dich auch hier zu sehen!
Northern, your Bavarian is good enough to help you through Holland as well - give it a try!
