When I stopped in at the Hawaiian Ukulele store in the Aloha Tower marketplace I struck up a conversation with the shopkeeper. She seemed quiet and shy until she picked up a KoAloha tenor and started chunking out "Lulu's Back in Town" with great authority. Turns out she's been playing Lyle Ritz style chord melody since she was a tyke, and picked up the cello as a backup instrument along the way.

She just emailed me to let me know that she now has a web site with some sound clips and appearance schedule info. http://www.dianerubio.com/music.php I couldn't resist spreading the word.

Yeah, thanks for sharing. Do you know what kind of uke she is playing. The clarity of those high notes just amazes me. My high notes sound like mud.

(You don't think talent and technique have anything to do with it, do you?)

Here is a promo shot of her holding her uke. Looks like a tenor.

Looks like an Applause tenor to me.

Aloha folks,

Thanks for the nice comments on my site. For most of the tracks, I am using an Applause tenor. On One Note Samba, and all of the vocal tracks (except for Unforgettable), I am using a soprano Kamaka (ca 1950's).

I expect to make a complete album soon, plus more audio tracks, so keep an eye on the site!

Thanks again for the lovely comments,
Diane
