Bulletin Board: NEW UKULELE MAGAZINE... Close Window

Original Post By: Guest_Uncle Rufus Date: 10/17/2005
Attention all: after months of prevaricating, meeting up in pubs, spending too much time strumming and chatting when we should have been getting down to some serious work, we (Phil Powell and I) have finally got something to show for our efforts. Our plan is to get a new uke magazine off the ground; something which is a quality publication catering for lovers of the little four stringer.

Theres still a heck of a lot to be done (and I can see plenty more beer and chat flowing before the first edition goes to print), but our shiny new website is up for perusal and explains a little more: http://www.ukulele-magazine.com . What we want (and need) is some contribution from far and wide (thats you). Take a look and let us know what you think we already have quite a few promises and material to make this a top read, but more is required.

Anyway, have a quick butchers at the site (take a gander, if you prefer) and lets be hearing from you!

TTFN,

Rufus

Looking WAY COOL their Uncle Rufus. Will have to give some time and thought for the suggestion box. If the mag looks as good as the web site I am sure at least the cover will be rightious! And, judging from ya'll's missives here the innerds should be AOK as well.

Looking good, Rufus. I'll be happy to help in some way.

Uncle, with your literary skills, not to mention massive uke knowledge, this publication likely will soon be the new standard. Best wishes and I"m excited for you and equally so for us fellow ukers.

Regards and best wishes, Taco

Rufus, without question, I am sure this is going to be a wonderful publication to be cherished by all the ukeuholics out there. If there is anything I can do to help I would be honored to do so.

Great idea! With the "ukulele occasional" being so popular and hard to get, this is Great News! Good Luck

Looks outstanding, very optimistic it will transcened a lot of the fluff in the aptly titled "occasional." I sent them a copy of my book over a year ago for review in the invisible issue #3 after being contacted by J.V., sent it off, never heard a thing about it since, wouldn't even know if it was received or read, though that matters not. Yikes, egad, etc............. great looking work, look forward to something intelligently done.

Good news!! Rufus, the site already looks great, and if the magazine is half as fun to read (and occasionally informative) as your contributions to this board have always been, then it's a good day for all of us! I hope I can figure out a way to contribute!

And if you need any help from me, I would be happy to be of any kind of help within my limited capabilities to do so.

Super good news! My sweetie is from England and she and my Bushman CedarTone are leaving Heathrow returning to the great Northwet as we speak. Pray for their safe return.
I'm definitely want to support you guys in getting this one off the ground, and I hope all in the ever growing ukedom subscribes.

Again Here is my latest parody to "Old Cow Hand"

I'm an old cowpie
On the trail I lie
In an old brown cow
Is where I've been til now
But I've hardened up in this place I lie
You can pick me up and let me fly
I'm the frisbee of the lone star sky
Yippee Yi yo Ki Yeah

MORE COWPIE!

Is the magazine going to be available state side (USA)?

I'd be interested in contributing and possibly advertising.

Say Uncle Rufus, with the caliber of people already offering to contribute I'd say you have one heck of a magazine hopefully in my hands. Count me in twice, I'd love to own a first issue Uke mag while it's afordable.

Rufus as taco man said, your knowledge of ukes will go down well on print, best of luck. I look forward to ordering a copy.

Rufus, this is great news. Can we expect some Gibson coverage, perhaps? Seriously, any new uke mag is reason to rejoice.

Bucktooth, if you persist in including the Old Cow Hand in any more posts, we're going to have to smack you. (lol)

Best of luck to you, Rufus. I look forward to becoming a subscriber.

In case any of you missed it, Uncle Rufus contributed a wonderful article on British ukes for the Ukulele Hall of Fame Museum's newsletter, "Uke Said It!"

"Uke Said It!" is the first--and, currently, the only--regularly published journal devoted to the ukulele. It is available to supporting members of the UHoFM. We have an international circulation. Join now and get yours! Back issues are coming, too!

Dave, thanks for reminding us that the UHoFM publishes a wonderful magazine/journal of its own. I look forward to getting each new issue.
