Hello all...Just recieved my KPK tenor from ebay selled Local Zine..I read somewhere where there were fakes being out on the market and was wondering if anyone had any problems with theirs..
I believe MGM stooped selling them due to market being flooded with reproductions?
Mine has the KPK sticker and all but am just curious if I have a knockoff..
Cant complain though..Sounds and looks great..Thanx for any info.. |

I think Koa Pili Koko translates to "almost Koa" or "related to Koa," something like that. I've always seen that name as an attempt to mislead buyers into believing these ukes are made of Koa, all the while "telling" buyers that they are actually made of something else. Assuming you understand Hawaiian, you've been told.
They are probably Australian Blackwood, which many believe is an under-appreciated Acacia species that looks and sounds a lot like traditional Koa. If it was just the wood I'd have bought one happily but I try to avoid tricky people. The idea that someone is now flooding the market with imitations of this imitator is somehow amusingly poetic.

KPK, Kelii's import line is a what you see is what you get. If you like it, you're home.
KPK luthier Kelii makes a great tenor uke in Koa right here for a few dozens of bucks more.
- like anything else buyer beware; especially used. New ukes have a warranty.
