Posted on another uke site from a friend of MGM, hopefully it is okay to post this here:

"I went to visit MGM today. Ramon Camarillo wanted to go so we met up there. My boys wanted to go and see Uncle Mike as well, but I was concerned about what kind of shape he was going to be in. I had alluded earlier that it seemed he was on his last leg, and I thought he was, especially supported by the update from the "Facebook comment". Suffice to say, he was in better shape than when I saw him last Friday, but still nowhere near out of the clear, and still staring down the crossroads, as the presence of the 24/7 nurse reminded me. The docs won't do anything until he gets better. He is still in a lot of pain, that is obvious.

He was still talking "bubbles", but was coherent. He remembered that I visited this past Friday, and even said he input the phone number into his phone of a mutual friend that I left with him.

He asked Ramon to play some Hawaiian music on the `ukulele that's in the room. Mike was obviously enjoying as he fell in and out of snoozing, which was great to see him in that relaxed state. When Ramon finished Song For Anna, MGM stated, "You know what is my favorite song? This one. . ." as he made the motion that Ramon does when playing One Note Samba, because Ramon does it like Ohta San. Not sure if that's his actual favorite, or his favorite from Ramon. Either way, he closed his eyes and dozed a quick one again.

Ramon handed the `ukulele to Mike, who has an extremely difficult time playing, but broke into, "Hey, I can do this song. . . " as he played Louie Louie. Nope, couldn't understand what he was saying, just like the original.

On an end note - he wants me to help him bring his stuff to the Swap Meet this Saturday, and asked Ramon if he could play while we're there. We both agreed, knowing we'll be nowhere near the Swap Meet.

On a side note - I reminded him that the thread he started has a lot of comments wishing him well. I hope he gets to see your kind words, and I hope you continue to send your wishes his way."

There was a photo of him in bed holding a uke with a big smile on his face, surrounded by friends.

I read that MGM has been released from the hospital but is still in need of a liver transplant. That he's acting like his old self trying to get stuff done instead of resting up. Don't burn yourself out Mike, chill and take it easy for a bit too brah!

I am praying for you MGM... Thanks for all the help with my students.

Carlton,

Cool to post that. Yup, he's out and running around - supposedly had a Garage Sale yesterday trying to get rid of his low end Kala's. I wish I were there to help him, but it was a last minute thing.

First thing he wanted to do when he got out? Cut his hair. I'm still concerned about him, and his short term status. He can't even pack a box or change strings on an `ukulele.

Anyway, haven't been here, in a while - see some familiar names, and a LOT of new ones. Been playing bass for the past year, so I took a massive detour (even built my own). Anyway, when I get updates on Mike, I'll be sure to post here as well (or Carlton, you can take care of this like you did, if that's okay).

For now, if anyone got Mike's email and/or phone number, he's still selling stuff (I'm doing it for him on eBay since his account got shut down).

So I guess that's the latest, he's out, and he's trying to survive, physically, and otherwise.
Posted By: Diane1020 Date: 9/19/2011 4:19:17 PM
Ok, everybody concentrate. Visualize Michael getting the transplant he needs and back to his old self again. It works! See it happen, make it happen. Worth a try anyway.

Is there any news about MGM. I bought several ukes from him in the past. Ron
Posted By: John Pak Date: 10/10/2011 4:59:29 PM
I saw this message on his FaceBook site:

"For those sending messages, Mike has been released from the hospital with a walker. His liver is functioning at 20% with hopes it will start to regenerate."

And from what I've read there, it sounds like Hawaii Music Supply has hired him to be a ukulele consultant, which is great. Let's keep praying for him to make a full recovery!

John, Aaron en Carlton: thank you SO much for your updates!!! I keep keeping my fingers crossed for Mike and send more best wishes his way.

I'll be damned, he sounds just like himself, bad typing and all ;). Just sent a message to him to wish him well, and to let him know etc.. etc... and not 30 seconds later-

"Aloha i just got out of the hospital and yes have ukes but very slow in responding due to more test and recovery Please try to call if you eed uke supplies xxx xxx-xxxx Mahalo MGM"

Well, actually, the spelling was pretty good..

I'm pretty encouraged, I hope he and his doctors are! He's good people.

That's good news!!! I pray that he continues to improve.

Oh, MGM, we SO miss your personal and web presence.

Please, come back to us!

Take care of yourself, get well, and GET BACK!

Ukers with UAS and RUAS, Repressed Ukulele Acquisition Syndrome (that would be us!), need your help. Your EBAY Ukulele site was THE BEST and now there is no treatment for those of us who are afflicted with the latter condition.

YOU infected us (personally) with UDS, Ukulele Donation Syndrome, because of your completely unexpected and wonderful donations to players in Fiji a few years ago. You are responsible for initiating us into the world of being shoe-string philanthropists. I think you would be happy to know we have been helped by other wonderful donors from this great FleaMarket Bulletin Board site to do more of your same work. YOU STARTED THIS! Smile.

Please get well. We miss you. Christie and Jeff
