Don't have one, but given a choice I would go with Kala.
Played both brands this past weekend at the Windy City Uke Fest and the Kala I like the best.

| I have both - go for the Kala, craftsmanship of the interior bracing is superior in comparison.

| Heres my simple answer...Lanikais are first generation designed ukuleles originally overseen by Mike of Kala. Kalas are the basic designs but they have now been redesigned and constantly improved with each new run due to the hard work that Mike ,Rudy and the owners of the Kala factory put into research and development. Along with refined bracing they have now started uv cured finishes on some models and are incorporating some spanish style neck joints on others...oem aquila now on higher end models. Wait until you hear the newly redisigned solid sopranos coming out in a few months these are truly winners...Lanikai also had some pono style runoffs temporaritly as well as a short association with Kanilea but that has all ended.
