I just got back from a nice long vacation in Honolulu. We attended the Ukulele Festival and encountered some very nice people.

1) Music Guy Mike! This guy is the best! I had emailed him with info on what uke I wanted and he had it for me. My Mother-in-law wanted a Koaloha Soprano so Mike hooked her up with one. He delivered the ukes to us at a restaurant! Also, my Wife wanted an 8-string baritione! (Hard to find!) So Mike told us that Kala had made one or two and might do more in the future. Which leads to the next cool uke dude...

2) Mike Upton of Kala Ukulele. He had an 8-string baritone on display at the uke fest and made arrangements with my Wife to sell it to her later. Mr. Upton is a very nice guy and totally gets "customer service". Later, he even personally delivered a case to the building where we were staying! Plus, 2 sets of Aquilla strings were waiting for us in the mail when we got home.(VERY nice uke by the way!)

3) Bryan Tolentino. We caught his show at Tiki's and afterwards he showed us his Kamaka custom and talked story for a while. He even let me play it. I was in uke-heaven playing a Bryan Tolentino song (Ka 'ukulele lele) on Bryan Tolentino's uke!

We came home with too many ukes (banging peoples heads as we boarded the plane) and we wondered if there is something in the water in Hawaii that makes people so nice!
Mahalo you guys!

my experience in the islands is that these ukulele folks are great with alot of aloha. Just watch MGM taking you to a "show". It will be pay back in November, Michael. This guy is first class. And on your next trip, go to the Kanile'a factory. Three nicer people in Joe, Kristen, and Bill you will never meet. And speaking of nice people go see Shawn and his marvelous collection of ukuleles.

Hey Belanos That was a custom run Solid Lacewood and sprucetop model I setup for Mike after the show for you. Notice the very lightness of the build and resonance of tone from that new style 8 string Baritone.

that's right MGM, I forgot to mention that you did that for us too. Mahalo! We asked Mike Upton about getting it set up and he knew right where to take it! We are very pleased with the way it sounds!
