Hello from Ukefarm,
I'm a little reluctant to post this, but I'm working on a music Web app and could use some help and feedback. I only have Windows 7 and IE11 available, and I need to get feedback on other systems and browsers. Here's the link, but read this post first before accessing the site. Do not register, I have created a Demo version. Click on Demo and you will be logged in automatically.
Go to http://www.johnbaxter.com/chordsongs/index.html
Click on Demo
It's probably best if you email me, rather than posting on Flea Market Music.
You can contact me at ukefarm@gmail.com
Here's what I need to know:
Chord display
If you see cryptic characters this means the chords are not rendering properly. The chords are based on unicode fonts, and you are seeing the unicode characters. Let me know if you see chords and if they are legible.
Chords Render properly but look bad.
If you are using Windows, check to see if ClearType is enabled. Turning ClearType on will depend on the version of Windows you are using. You can Google for instructions on how to enable ClearType for your specific version of Windows.
Screen Resolution
Let me know how it looks on your screen. Too small? Too big? What screen resolution are you using?
I need to know your OS (Windows NT, Windows Vista, Windows 8, Mac, etc.). Also the browser you are using (Safari, IE, Google Chrome, etc.). This app is not suitable for Tablets.
Here's what doesn't work yet:
Printing does not work. Ignore.
The Alt chord feature works, but when the Edit page is loaded or reloaded, you need to toggle it before you can enter chords. Use Std for first position chords, Alt for 2nd position chords, i.e., Std Am7 = 0000, Alt Am7 = 2433.
You can not save, update, or delete the sample songs.
Thanks for any help you can provide,
John Baxter |

Hi John, I'm new to the forum. I took a look at your chord chart generator. Seems like you have a little way to go with it yet.
A couple of thoughts from me: When you first load up the example songs the chord chart itself does not display immediately, instead you get various letters showing. I also found this when I switched to Baritone, Mandolin and Mandola.
My other thought is it would be good to see the entire song laid out below the chord chart, I could only see a couple of lines of it in the display box you currently have on there. Maybe you could split the bottom half of the screen and show the keypad on the right and the song on the left.
I haven't had a proper play with it yet but I thought I'd give you my first impressions. What is your plan with it? Will it be free to register once you have it online fully?

Hi UK Ukee,
First of all, welcome to the forum, and thank you for your feedback. The lyrics field can be expanded by dragging the bottom right corner. I'll add infomation on that. The app uses custom unicode fonts. I'm working on pre-loading the fonts to prevent the unicode characters being displayed at load.
The app is intended for singer/songwriters, and stringed instrument players. It will be free, but registration will be required. The user will have their own personal song library, but can tag their songs to be included in the Community Library if they want.

Hi John, thanks for the welcome. I think it would be good to keep the controls near the top of the screen from a user point of view. Looks like it will be good when completed. I'll keep an eye out for any updates.

tested your web site from my laptop (slackware linux) with 2 browsers: opera, firefox.
Seems to be working ok, apart from a few glitches
such as some of the chords don't display all strings (but you
can make out the chords, all the dots are in place) and before
the page is fully loaded you get some unicode letters instead of the chords
