Hi, I didn't get any response to my post about music summer camp, but I did want some input about this: What is a good simple two-chord ukulele song kids can learn, as beginners? Need to know for next year's camp! Thanks. |

Aaron Keim (Mya Moe Ukueles, the "Quiet American," etc.) has a great booklet of two-chord songs available. Check out the "Store" at http://www.quietamericanmusic.com

I like that list. I have a mother/daughter as ukulele students and they are having fun playing these simple tunes. Thanks for posting. Ticker

Dr Uke's site is a great resource for such stuff. He provides lyrics/chords sheets with chord diagrams. Tons of tunes on his site. Here's the link to the beginner's section

- Singing in the rain (the jazzed up version has more chords, but playing it with two is passable)
- Brown Girl in the Ring (a lot of disco is based on counting songs)
- Wheels of the Bus
- Iko Iko
If you play those songs in F, you can even make them one-finger songs: Fadd9 (0010) with a C7 (0001). Gets people playing in less than 30 seconds!
A more medival sounding two chord progression is i-VII (Am-G, or Dm-C, or Em-D). If one player in a group stick to the minor chord all the way through, you get a nice droning effect.
- Drunken Sailor
- Son a Chistr (aka Cider Song, or She used to love me) - it does have a bridge with a third chord, the VI.
- Jean Petit qui Danse
- Rosa Zullen We Dansen
