This summer has been an adventure in playing in front of little groups of guitar types. Sometimes with paper -sometimes just playing - no help looking at their fingers.
Anyway, i worked like a dog on Besame Mucho just to have a song for Funky Frets Uke Fest in October, and the guitar buddies just laughed.
Should I play it for uke people or is it just funny? |

Some very accomplished players (i.e. Lyle Ritz) have recorded this chestnut. It's not an easy tune. If you have it down pat, great for you! To play cleanly, with a great sense of rhythm and timing and good tone, is hard and that's what separates good players from less than good players. If you like the tune, great! Don't worry about your guitar buddies. Play the tune and make it your own and you'll be on your way to being a good player! Good luck!

Thank you , Ukeguy, for the words of encouragement. I think the operarative word for me is word "cleanly". I have changed my essential strokes and note picking a lot in practicing, so I may have to revert to the very smple to be clean all the way.

The great Oscar Aleman once did a spoof version of it, including a lot of kissing sounds. It's so good that the song itself - in any version - reminds me of his original take. Like be reminded of the Weird All Yankovich cover every time that one pop classic comes on the radio...
Opa Tsupa (France) and the Ukulogisch Museum (Belgium) both recorded ukulele-heavy and Aleman-inspired swing versions of the song.
