I had trigger finger surgery on the middle finger of my fretting hand a week ago and I'm getting really anxious to start playing again.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this type of surgery and how long it took for you to recover the full range of motion in your finger and hand? Any complications or issues?

The top of my fretting hand index finger has been amputated six years ago, and in the process the tendons weren't properly reattached - so I can barely bend that oh-so crucial finger.
On to the good news: within weeks I was playing again. The physical therapist actually encouraged using that finger, once it was out of its gift wrapping.

Holy cow! That must have been incredibly traumatic. My little surgery should be fine. I've been encouraged to get physical therapy as soon as the stitches are out on Wed. so I'll do that and whatever I can to get it back in shape as quickly as possible.

Just a follow up. . . It's been 5 weeks since the surgery and I had a visit with the surgeon on Wed. The hand is still sore and sometimes it will ache for no apparent reason. Ibuprofen lessens the ache enough for light use, but it's too soon for anything like normal activity. I tried practicing a while on the uke for about 30-45 minutes. Fretting was a bit slow and inaccurate. The hand & finger stiffened for the rest of the evening and then woke me up the next morning at 5:30am hurting like heck. The doc said this is actually fairly normal and things should settle down in another 4-6 weeks(!)
I hope so, as this is a very frustrating time. To be completely honest, I did overdo some activity when my wife found some fabric storage shelves at a local estate sale. We loaded and transported 3 large shelves in our minivan (one on the roof) and I worked my hand pretty hard that day.
I am a very bad patient.
