I've been trying to pin down the origin of my Recording King [interior stamped] tenor. Bought it cheap cause it was pretty abused. Did a 2 six pack rework on it myself, loaned it out, got it back, played it until I figured out it would be really good with the bridge correctly located. Has a luthier put new bridge on & cleated a bunch of cracks. Sounds pretty, like compare it to vintage Martin Tenors [how dare I, yes.I dare!!!]. Right now the same instrument [not beat up like mine] is on Ebay. This one is stamped Gretsch on the headstock. It has an Youtube file & when I went to look at it, another one popped up played by BucMc..I forgot the rest of his name, but I'll never forget his voice. Anyway, look at these & tell me if you've seen any labeled either brand. One distinctive feature is Hawaiian heel, which I've never seen on a Mainland mahogany instrument. |
