Hello there, I just joined! I'm researching how different ukulele groups choose the songs to play and prepare for gigs. Is it one person (your leader) that does it? or a small group or a consensus? Source? which websites or songbooks or do you create your own? How long and often to you practice before the song is ready to be performed? Do you specify strum pattern or anything goes? Who does the licks and riffs? Which other instruments do you have (bass, percussion, kazoo, etc) I will be working on this research through the summer. |

The answer: Yes, no, maybe, sometimes....Really depends on the individuals involved. Many start up groups find the Fleamarket Daily Songbooks a good starting point. The Player Directory section has a list including groups by state. I'd suggest you pick a couple of locations close to you or similar in town/city size & contact them directly. As well, depending on your location; one of the listed major groups; such as SUPA in Seattle has a calendar on their website that lists various local smaller groups. The organization of these smaller groups may be a better guide for starting out than the Biggies. Many of the Biggies have been running for years and studying their structures may not help you get yours going.
