Being a fellow composer/lyricist with a particular love for the uke I have followed Jim Beloff’s work as a singer/songwriter for many years and admired his broad range of talents. The Wind And Sun is a leap upward for him in every way. Present, as always, is a superb ukulelist using rich harmonic language on just four strings. But there is a beautiful vulnerability and poignance in these songs that feels honest and true. Jim honors the great musicians he’s partnering with here, and they bring his uke into the richness of a full orchestra. But, most important, and most worthy of respect -- The Wind And Sun is the work of a maturing artist with a deepening human perspective on life, on love, on joy, and on loss. It’s a stunning achievement. Don’t miss it. |
