Not exactly ukulele related but...
My wife and I went to see blues guitar player Eric Bibb last night. Small sold out venue (probably 200 people).
It was easily one of the best concerts I have every seen. Just him, a microphone and three acoustic guitars that he switched among (not even a chair, he stood and played for 2.5 hours with one brief intermission). Now that I'm playing a stringed instrument (uke) every day, I appreciated it that much more.
He is sooo gifted and his music is very moving. Different than traditional blues, so even if you don't like blues, there's a good chance you'll still really like his music. He also mingled with the crowd after the concert and he is a truly gracious and generous musician. The glowing reviews of his most recent album "Diamond Days" do a very good job of describing his style.
He's not very well known in the US (he spent a lot of time in Eurpoe) so I thought I'd put in a little plug. If you get a chance, go see him -- you'll be glad you did. And definitely pick up an album or three. We play ours all the time. |

| I have a blues compilation cd with Eric Bibb performing Jimi Hendrix's "Angel". It's one of my favorite versions of that song.

I don't know him but will check him out hokey, thanks and I'm glad you had a good time.
On Dec. 1, I drove across the state to see Kelly Joe Phelps. Just one guy and a guitar and vocals for a couple of hours, and I was blown away. He does a sort of jazzy blues acoustic fingerstyle that's really impressive. You might want to look him up also. I have every one of his albums, he's a huge favorite of mine.
Hokey, I just listened to some Eric Bibb tracks on iTunes. I love this guy! Thanks for the heads-up on him. It must have been great to see him in a small venue.

| Eric Bibb suffers from GAS (not UAS) On his 2006 album "Diamond Days" he has a video clip where he takes you to his favourite music shop in Paris. Very nice music. Keb Mo is also very pleasant to listen to.

Nancy, glad you like him. Thanks for the Kelly Joe Phelps rec. Just orderded an album!
Kirbster -- what's the name of the album?
old smelly -- and that's not a performance that shows his virtuosity..although it does show off his voice and song writing.
So glad you all like him.

I saw him a couple of times a few years back... on his own and with his Swedish band. Both times he was really great. His first two albums released on 'Opus' spent months in my CD player. They are great albums, he just gets the band around a mic in a good room and they kick it...no effects or overdubs.
BTW Nina you know how ever other week for the last year I mention you should checkout Eric Bibb... yes it's the guy I keep mentioning.

hokey pokey, it's called "blue haze". It's a complation of blues versions of Hendrix's music & has a lot of really nice stuff on it. But, Eric Bibb's "Angel" is by far my favorite one. It's available through Amazon.

Thanks for the recommendation, HP. I like his style very much. Allison's R, I found a clip of that trip to the Parisian shop. As shopping musicians I'm sure we all can recognize what a bit of heaven that small store must be.

Hey Neil, nice find -- I hadn't even noticed that was on the CD. What a beautiful shop.
for all of you who have become interested, be sure to check out the earlier Opus 3 releases, as Nipper notes. Those are some of my favorites.
