April 2007
NY UKE FEST '07

A round of applause for impresario Uke Jackson and the staff at the Theater for the New City for a rousing second year of the NY Uke Fest. Heedless to the balmy spring weather outside, the devoted attendees hunkered down for a four-day marathon on two stages of continuous ukulele entertainment. The lineup included New York's own Moonlighters, the NY Ukulele Ensemble as well as a surprising representation of fine international talent.

Along with its well-known ukulele products, Flea Market Music provided an actual flea market of vintage ukulele collectibles including sheet music, songbooks, Hawaiiana and the 1970 Parker Bros. Tiny Tim Game of Beautiful Things!
At the top of the most dazzling list was the mystical Dr. Sparkles from Virginia whose talent to sing the alphabet backwards was equally brilliant.
Michael Aratani, aka Musicguymic, displayed an abundance of high quality new ukuleles, shipped over from Hawaii.
Tom Cheng and Gordon Velasco swap some tunes.
Uncle Zac (Pete Zaccagnino) applied his graphic skills to “tat-tuke” a white Mahalo ukulele with Judith A. Bullard's festival logo, creating an instant collectible.

Flea Market Music flashback page offers pictures from ukulele events and happenings through out the ukulele community.
