Please help me with the names of some songs that are popular with and good for taching to the 9 - 13 year old age group. Simple chord songs that I can teach to them. Thx

I've noticed that children don't sing modern songs. Songs that they are familiar with are Church hymns and Christmas songs.

Silly song about "McDonald's"

Actually, young people are picking up the uke because of modern songs like "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson.

If you look up 4-chord medley on YouTube you'll see a whole bunch of contemporary songs that sound great on uke and are pretty easy (one progression: F C Dm Bb or C G Am F) -- songs like "Where Is The Love," "Superman" and of course "I’m Yours." For slightly younger kids, maybe the SpongeBob "F.U.N. Song."

Some kids enjoy Beatles songs - "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da" and "Octopus's Garden" are two 4-chord songs that I think could sound good.

You might want to consider "The Song Train," which is a four-CD set of "one- and two-chord songs" with accompanying booklet, compiled by Harvey Reid and Joyce Anderson. It contains 56 songs and should have some that meet your needs. Here's the link:

Noel:

I'd suggest searching for camp-side songs that are used at children's camps. Lot's of suggestions by Google.

Boy and Girl Scouts have some good pieces too. Get in contact with the local scout headquarters (in Irving) and they should b e able to give you some contacts who can tell you which songs go over well.

Noel,
I'd recommend Aaron Keim's 2 Chord Songbook. He sells them for 7 bucks I think. They are easy to play and he has demo videos of the songs on you tube. I don't have the link, but you could do a Post Search for it. I really like the Song Train link that Allen gave. I will be ordering one of those sets for sure.

I think Noel is looking for the modern songs that the KIDS would REALLY be interested in...not the ones us old farts think are cool or up to date.

I like Hilo Greg's ideas
