I purchased this banjo uke about three weeks ago. I think its a great banjo uke, and at its price point is a great intro to the banjo uke. I have an opportunity to buy a Lanikai banjolele for a great price so I'm going to jump on it.
This uke isn't perfect, as there are a few finish flaws and it could use a set up. That's the trade off when you buy a uke at this price point, but it was well worth it to me.

Black Bear Soprano Koa Ukulele
This solid koa body uke was built in April 2011 in Yakima, Washington by Luthier Duane Heilman. The body is made from 40 year old koa, and the wood neck is macadamia, very cool looking. This uke has a full clear, loud rich sound with the bark you expect from Black Bear Ukuleles. Action is set up low, frets easily, and is a real pleasure to play. Truly a beautiful sounding uke, very classic. Tough decision to sell, but have recently purchased a custom soprano and decided to reduce my collection. The uke is the mint condition, like the day I received it. It has always been kept in a humidified case, when not played.

This item was purchased brand new from an ebay Lanikai dealer several years ago, and I have been the only owner. It is in great shape and plays very well. The action is good and the body shows minimal wear....it looks almost as good as the day I purchased it and has been played very little. I prefer to play the tenor size ukulele and that is what I have mainly played. I will include the baritone case that I purchased from the musicians friend website. I also just recently had it restrung with genuine aquilla strings (about 2 weeks ago) and it sounds so good! This would make a very nice deal for anyone wanting a baritone ukulele. I have owned and played several ukuleles and this is certainly not one of the more expensive models but it still sounds good and plays very well.

Lyon & Healy - Koa soprano with Gold Leaf
Beautiful Lyon & Healy koa soprano ukulele in excellent condition. I would guess this is from the 1920s but am not sure. Rosewood fretboard with 17 frets, ivory markers (5,7,10,12). Front of headstock has kite inlay, back reads "703" "PAT APLD FOR" and "WASHBURN." Raised ivoroid soundhole rosette, single ivoroid binding front and back. Interior has L&H burned stamp and a "DITSON" printed stamp. I have no idea what the relationship was between Ditson and L&H. There is some very faint strum wear but absolutely no cracks, repairs, or scratches. Strung with Aquila Nylguts -- sounds great and is in remarkable condition!

Soprano Vintage Royal Hawaiian Style Uke by Black Bear
This is a new soprano size uke fashioned after the Royal Hawaiian style. Many years
ago I did some extensive repair work on a uke with all these same appointments.
Using blue/green abalone shell for all the bindings and inlays give this uke a very
unique look. The body shape is also a bit narrower like the vintage ukes of that
era. All the wood used is Koa, some of it highly flamed. The neck has a graphite
truss rod. There are 12 frets to the body. Vintage bone nut and saddle. The friction
tuners are vintage from the 20's with modified cream-colored plastic knobs and they
work very well. Clear Worth brand strings. Satin nitro-lacquer finish. Low easy
playing action and a very full rich mellow Koa sound. Excellent volume for a uke of
this size with that nice bark when strummed. Your complete satisfaction is

Solid Martin Tenor Style 1 in very good condition. This ukulele is from sometime in the 40s. Mahogany body and neck with rosewood fretboard with t-frets and fret markers (5,7,10). Closed geared tuning pegs (I've replaced the screws because the originals were stripped). Bridge is in great condition. Strung with new fluor-carbon strings. This instrument has been completely refurbished by the german luthier Claus Mohri. It has wonderful sound ... you will be enthusted! It comes with a case made by GEIB (Chicago). I am not sure if this is the original case of this ukulele. Please ask for the shipping cost to your location.

This uke was built in Hawaii in 2008 with TRU bracing. The instrument has always been kept in a humidified case, when not played. It was a difficult decision to sell, but have recently purchased a custom koa concert uke and have decided to reduce my collection.

EXQUISITE 1987 KAMAKA CONCERT
Rare ALL KOA model, purchased new by the previous owner from the Kamaka factory in Honolulu in 1987. They simply aren't made like this anymore. As the attached photos will show, it's in near-new mint condition, barely played by the original owner or myself. Time for me to thin the heard. Wood is perfectly matched, tone exquisite. A hairline crack below the bridge was professionally repaired but only because I insisted. You'd be hard pressed to find it. I bought it brand new from Flea Market Music in March 2011. I decided that

It really sounds great plugged in and I am very picky about sound. I did drill a small hole in
the bottom to put a strap button and then decided that I didn’t like the strap so
I took it out. It doesn’t affect the sound or structural integrity of the instrument but

This is a new concert size uke made of Macadamia wood for the body. This wood works
and has about the same sound properties as Honduran mahogany. The gain pattern has a
delicate shimmering look to it and is very unique. The top binding is rosewood. The
top purfling and sound hole rosette are a w/b combination of wood strips. The neck
is Mango wood with a graphite truss rod. This Mango has nice color and some very
small worm holes from years past, and is a bit harder than Mahogany. There are 12
frets to the body, 18 total. Frets are slightly larger than small uke frets making

LoPrinzi Style 2
Minty LoPrinzi style 2 soprano. All solid mahogany. Beautiful even, mellow tone. If butter had a sound it would sound like this.

1921 Martin "T-Smith" Tiple
I present to you an extremely rare Martin tiple, only one of 12 made for the William J Smith Co. of New York. This one contains both the Smith and Martin stamps on the headstock and inside the body. Serial #16437. Spruce top w/ mahogany back and sides.
Before I go further, the last thing I want to be is misleading so I would like to make it very clear: THIS TIPLE NEEDS WORK! I took it to a luthier on 01/07/2012 and was quoted a "worst-case scenario price" of $400. The work to be done includes:
-Repair of three top cracks
-Fine humidity crack running through approximately half of the fretboard.
-Fret Redress
-The wood binding is missing on approx 1/5 of the tiple.
-Re-finish in areas to fix the discoloration on the top.
Now the good:
The neck is straight and not an issue. Original open-geared tuners are
original and work just fine.
All cracks are humidity-related and no wood is missing.
One of these appeared on the Uke Yak over the summer: Frets Fayne had the following to say:
"It is quite a rare tiple ...W J Smith is the man who brought the tiple idea to Martin from South America. I have always heard the model with his initials on the headstock was made by Martin and then when Martin saw how successful it was, they decided to make them under their own name. I have only seen one other which I owned. It would be known as a
T18 if it were marked Martin. If I owned it I wouldn't sell it for less than 2500.00....Thanks alot...chuck"

Martin Style 0 ** REDUCED **
** REDUCED ** Solid Martin Style 0 in good condition. I would guess that this ukulele is from sometime in the 40s based on headstock decal and size of the dots on the fretboard (I think the earlier the uke, the smaller the dots). Mahogany body and neck with rosewood fretboard with t-frets and small fret markers (5,7,10). Keystone tuning pegs (I've replaced the screws because the originals were stripped). Bridge is in great condition. This has bumps and bruises (please note the picture of the headstock which has the worst ding). There are 2 very small finish cracks on the back (barely noticeable) but there are no through cracks. Strum wear on the soundboard near the lower bout (visible in pictures). Strung with really old, nylon strings. More a player than a looker but sounds just like you would expect an old Style 0 to sound -- GREAT!

Here's a nylon strung Mele Guitarele. One of the early models I think. Current model sells for $700 plus from Hawaii. For those who don't know, Mele is a ukulele builder on Maui and began offering this model for those wanting a bit more than a uke (closer to baritone size I think).
Thinking it may be Mahogany but it could also be solid Koa. Has nice Grover tuners and abalone dolphin at 12th fret. Can be tuned to E or higher A.
Shows some wear from age and some pick marks under the sound hole.
Nice for the uke enthusiast who wants something a little different or for the parlor guitar lover. Has a simple chipboard case. Just a quick try here before going to eBay.
I'm moving to a small tenor uke and would be open to some kind of trade thang for a 6-string model or even (gulp) a resonator plus extra cash of course.
