I'm beginning to start the process of organizing a new ukulele festival in Utah. Background; I teach ukulele classes in American Fork and have strong ties to the American Fork Arts Council.
Proposed dates: July 25-30, 2012
Venues: I've reserved Historic City Hall which has a hall that seats up to 100 as well as 2 small classrooms for classes and workshops Wed-Sat. Also, American Fork Amphitheater on Monday the 30th for a showcase and concert (as part of American Fork's Monday Night Concerts in the Park series).
Some workshop ideas include a boot camp for new ukers (which I taught last Summer to almost 70 students), an ukulele building class, etc.
I'd like to hear from anyone interested in helping organize, participate, teach (must have experience), perform . . .
I'd also like to hear suggestions from the larger ukulele community. What's worked great at festivals you've attended? Ideas? Videos welcome.
Lastly, we don't have the resources to bring James Hill, which we would have liked to have done, so suggestions for other headliners closer to Utah that we might be able to afford would be appreciated.
Of course, we're also looking for sponsors . . . :-)

| Six days may be a bit ambitious for a first-time fest, but American Fork looks to be a fantastic place to visit, with lots of history, and hiking and camping opportunities nearby in the Wasaches. Hope it's a great success.

I've been one of the main organizers for American Fork's concerts in the park series as well as produced many other concerts in the area. I have strong ties to the Arts Council here and most of our venues come at a low cost. Anyway, here's a rough sketch of some of the major activities:
Pre-Festival Activities
July 23 : Wolfelele Ukulele Building workshop.
July 23 : Public screening of 'The Mighty Uke.'
July 25-28 : Ukulele Choir Camp for absolute beginners.
Festival Proper:
July 27-28 : Workshops for advanced beginners, intermediate and advanced players - hoping to bring Jim D'ville and Gerald Ross (looking for artist sponsors for them) to teach swing and ukulele by ear. We also have some great local teachers that may teach clawhammer and other techniques.
July 29 : Hymn Gospel Spiritual sing-a-long.
July 30 : Ukulele Play! concert - in conjunction with the American Fork Concerts in the Park series at AF Amphitheater.
