When Jim Beloff came to visit a couple of weeks back, I couldn't help but be taken by his concert Koa Fluke. It's got major wear marks that will eventually become holes a la Willy Nelson. Today I looked at my tenor Fluke that I keep at school (work) and noticed wear marks.
What about yours? |

| My Tiki King Flea and Fluke are both over 5 years old and I play them everyday. My Flea still looks new, but much of the design where my arm rests on my Fluke is noticeably fading, but I don't mind because I think it gives the uke character by looking like it's been played a lot. Sometimes when strumming (striking) the A string (on my fluke) my finger will hit the soundboard and it adds a nice sound, but I haven't done that enough to cause any damage...yet.

My daughter and I have concert Fleas in hibiscus red and mango orange. The area below the sound hole has become shiny from hours of strumming, more so on the mango uke because we'eve had that one longer.

| My school Fluke is due for a string change. I'll bring it home and take a couple of pics to post.

| My Fluke never gets played, but it's covered with "marks" anyway: autographs I've collected of various uke notables including Lyle Ritz, Bill Tapia, John King, Jake Shimabukuro, James Hill, Del Rey ... even Jim and Liz Beloff, which is only fitting. I stopped playing it for fear of wearing off some of the 30 or so signatures. It may not be my most expensive uke, but as a souvenir of my uke journey, it's priceless.

| Maybe I have enough Flukes (3) and Fleas (2), plus other brands of 'ukes and some guitars, that it's taking longer to wear 'em out. Heck, one only has 24 hours a day to play. (Less, if you are an afficionado of that "sleep" thing I keep hearing about.)
