Here is another song from Gerald Ross's workshop on Hawaiian steel, recorded at The Portland Uke Fest 09.
This time, Marv and Kathy Reitz play guitar and ukulele, as they sing Ebb Tide, with Gerald accompanying them on lap steel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJJB8mtqZGQ |

| Very nice. Gerald, are you playing through your Cube Street in these videos? I can't quite see.

| I love the Roland Cube Street. With it's low wattage and 6.5" speakers I can get pretty close to a 1930-40's electric sound.

I think you get that sound very well, Gerald. Very nice job on the video too, Boswell.
One more question, and I'll stop being a gear geek. What kind of steel are you playing there?

Hi Doug,
I hung out with and backed up an old buddy of yours a few weeks ago. I was an accompaniest (guitar) at the Midwest Banjo Camp and was 'assigned' to your pal Mac Benford for his old-timey banjo workshop. Lot's of fun.
I am playing a 1954 Fender Champion lap steel with a Jason Lollar replacement pickup. I asked Jason to build me a pickup with the traditional Champion tone but with a bit more mid range. He delivered!
The Champion was Fender's "student" model. It was the steel you bought for your kids to see if they were really serious about the instrument.

| Note: I am playing a Champion - not a Champ. The Champ came out in the later 50's.

| Thanks, Gerald. Yeah, Mac told me he'd seen and played with you. He had a good time. He can still get around for an old guy! ;-)
