To my extended uke family,
I've been absent a long time I know, my deepest apologies but after the usual excuses (retired from work and relocated to Las Vegas to care for elderly parents, raising a teenage daughter alone, nearly broke off my left index finger so no uke playin', etc., etc.) the Real Excuse broke - we lost our mom to Alzheimer's a couple of months ago.
So with no ability to play my favorite instrument, as well as arranging for the thousand and one things related to taking care of a lost loved one's final affairs, things finally settled and I found myself returning to an old hobby, songwriting. Watching Dad as he went through sorting out Mom's things and listening to him reminiscing, I was inspired to write a song, my first really new one in years. And I just wanted to share it with the rest of my extended family here. The demo is done on keyboards which I could still thankfully play despite the finger issue.
Thank You for listening.

My singing isn't too clear on this so here are the words to follow along with:
I LOVE YOU, TOO
Copyright 2010 Charles Wong
I hear the gentle whisper as you slide between the sheets
Like you've lived here all my life and not the past few weeks
You're my last thought late at night, and the first one each day
How'd you do this to me, why am I this way?
I can't think straight, can't concentrate
Like there's no air to breathe
The space between my fingers
Is where your hands should be
I feel this burst of butterflies when you walk in the room
You smile and say, "I love you, too"
So we spend our lives together but no one outruns time
You start to lose your thoughts, then you start to lose your mind
You hardly know my name now, or remember my face
But you lean on me still, as you struggle to say
I can't think straight, can't concentrate
Like there's no air to breathe
The space between my fingers
Is where your hands should be
Some days I feel like I'm the only person in the room
I smile and say, "I love you, too"
But now you're gone, and life turns black and white
I kneel to pray and hope you hear my cry
I can't think straight, can't concentrate
Like there's no air to breathe
The space between my fingers
Is where yours used to be
But I feel this burst of butterflies might take me to you soon
And I hear you say, "I love you, too"
Yes I hear you say, "I love you, too" |

You've been missed Charlie, not only for your musical talent but for the fun we had joking and kidding around on this board. I'm glad you have gotten back to where you could write a song like that. It's a good one.
I wish you the best in everything you need and want to do.
Jim

To cowbelle, Le, mLKauai, JamieT, Hipster, Bigbill, osBob, Craig, Chris, deejay, Diane1020, GrampsJim and ricdoug -
Your kind sentiments and song comments are deeply appreciated. Professional (paid-for) critiques from some music industry pros have been very favorable, with a few suggested rewrites of the lyric (esp. first verse) and I am diligently working on this. Perhaps the song might actually go somewhere.
Thanks again for listening!

Hi Dom, thank you so much for taking a listen.
Le, thanks for mentioning my dad, at 84 he is actually still doing quite fine.
Howzit Harry, appreciate you looking in on this. I must remember to look you up when I get to Nashville (hopefully getting there for other reasons as well!). Mahalo.

Thank you Loon, it was inspired actually by the way my dad reminisced about Mom. So I wrote it from his point of view, from them first meeting, then spending their lives together, etc.
BTW, do you need that Fluke w/geared tuners back? Since the arrival of my other ukes I am not playing it at all nowadays. Please let me know!
