Ralph and I will be teaching and performing at the Augusta Heritage Swing Week in Elkins, West Virginia - Aug 1-6, 2010.
Lots of ukes at Augusta and other instruments as well. Nightly uke jams yes, but also... jams with fiddlers, piano pounders, restrained drummers, trumpeters with mutes, polite trombonists, tasteful accordion players etc. - there are no rules - it's all music!

Don't laugh...
The Pizza Box drumming class taught by Steve Larrance is fantastic. Using a standard square pizza box and brushes Steve teaches you to get a very convincing snare drum sound. In fact it is so authentic sounding that it can be used recordings.
A Pizza Box "snare" works perfectly for jam sessions. Small, easy to transport, inexpensive and tasty.

Is this the guy who was playing pizza box drums in the jam sessions? He was great! What a good idea for a class.
I think a washboard class would also be a big hit for the bluegrass side. Maybe there is one...?

The young 20-something year old guy playing PB drums in the jam session was/is Steve Gutterman. Steve is a fantastic drummer now studying drums in NYC. He'll probably be back this summer.
But the Pizza Box Drumming class is taught by Steve Larrance. He is aptly nicknamed “Freelance Larrance,” having played with hundreds of performers, including Ike Turner, Little Feat, and Diana Ross. Steve has taught at Swing Week for 17 years.
