MGM: You K-1 Pineapples sound great! I can only imagine what this wood combination will sound like.

is that dark koa w/ lighter koa binding?
the neck looks skinny... is that the neck?

I have another King tenor slated for the fall. But I did pick up a Pono Pro tenor in Mahogany and must say even though the price is higher than the prior Pono's, I am very impressed with it. JK is on the cutting edge with imports IMO.

congrats.

The back and sides are Brazilian rosewood and the binding is koa. That's not the neck, but something to hold it while in the spray booth. The top is Port Orford cedar.

I played some of the new Ponos at the NAMM show and agree with your assessment.

The one pineapple I've had, an all-koa Mele concert pineapple, had wonderful tone and was a joy to play. The sound was full and rich, so much so you'd swear it was a far larger instrument. I can't wait to see and hear this one when it's finished.

Lots of luck with it, Craig.

I've never seen a tenor pineapple with the exception of the Pineapple Sunday, which is sorta a tenor scale and a terrific player. Yours looks stupendous. I just had a cedar-topped concert pineapple made by Dave Talsma and it's wonderful, good choice in woods. I trust this one will be as fine as your other lovely Ko'olaus. Congratulations in advance!

Thanks all for the kind words. I'm going for a more classical-guitar like sound... I know this will get me in trouble with some ukulele players in the world, but, I really don't care...;) I have a spate of classical arrangements to learn and record. This process will take about a year, at least, and by that time, the new ukulele should be fairly "open."

"I know this will get me in trouble with some ukulele players in the world"

Who cares? Life is too short.

in trouble? ... not with me; you have brought world class arrangements to the uke world Craig, with your hard work on your teacher's jazz arrangements.
with this new instrument, wow. "hele on" as we say.
does this new baby have a radius fb planned? if so, what degree do you like it?
Posted By: Craig Date: 3/5/2010 9:36:04 PM
I think it's a 16 degree. Very slight. What's nice about working with Ko'olau is that I can say, "I'll take the same radius as Lyle and Benny."

Congrats in advance, Craigster! I wish I could order more wood ukes, but not where I am now...

Charlie... They have humidifiers in Vegas don't they? I'm sure William King would be happy to make something for you.
