Hi. I'm looking for a gig stand for my uke. Saw this:

http://elderly.com/accessories/items/KUS1.htm

They mention that it's a bit small for baritones. I've got a Mainland tenor cutaway (what a nice uke). Anybody have any experience with this (or any) stand?

is a good option and works well.

I have one, and I love it. Folds up nicely, too.

It will expand to fit your tenor. I had a bunch of these. Ernie is understating it, it should read

"IT FOLDS UP NICELY, TOO!!" Seriously does, nicely into a little pouch you can fit -almost- anywhere

It's not the most stable though, if you have animals or kids, I'd suggest the Ingles-

These look stable too.

I bought the one shown in Neal's second url(Peak ST-20). The neck support didn't reach the neck of my tenor Kamaka. The back of the uke sat against the frame work of the stand. I took it back (Elderly's) and got a couple of the fold up Kala stands (item #KUS1, $15.00 at Elderly's). They work good for my tenors. You can "adjust" them a little by bending the supports to fit thicker bodies (Ukes, not players). John

"...(Ukes, not players)..."

Thanks for that clarification, John...an important point to consider.

:)

I do have a very, very inquisitive cat who rules our household, here....and things can definitely get a bit hectic during setup and dismantling at gigs, too. So: the stability factor's very big.

Thanks for the suggestions, people. Great to have good info!

Ingles stand is best I've found for ukes except my Ubass. Neck on the Kala is too wide to fit into support.
Otherwise the Ingles is my favorite support for ukes.
The Kala is OK but does require some lower support adjustment for wide ukes. Ingles works fine from Kala soprano travel size to Ubass - and I've just completed a most scientific study!

Welllll...a "scientific study", eh...?

Impressive. I recently finished a scientific study of my own, on how to best enjoy a fresh squeezed lime juice margarita on the rocks with salt: sitting on a couch, chair, barstool, or standing...

It was exhausting research...and, yet, still extremely exhilarating!

gitapik - Do you need a research assistant?
Posted By: gitapik Date: 3/7/2010 9:41:23 PM
We have had many, many research assistants here at "gitapik inc", over the years. Our consistent excellence in reporting is mainly attributed to the intense belief and focus we have in our mission.

If you feel that you can contribute to these goals...to "reach for the stars", as it were...to put your all into what can only be termed a true "team effort"...

...then, "YES": gitapik inc is always looking for researchers. Both assistants and team leaders.

Thank you for your interest. We look forward to receiving your application.

There really IS nothing else to say, except:

"Congratulations!"

You are IN, sir!

And may your crest light the skies and be an inspiration to all!

:-)

Fine shot, man...

...I just ordered the Ingles, btw. Thanks, everybody!

Just got the Ingles stand. That was nice and fast. Very nice. Functional and sturdy. Fits into my backpack. Thanks!

If its for gigging why don't you get the swing string or kiwaya uke holder that clips to the microphone stand?
Posted By: gitapik Date: 3/9/2010 11:42:20 PM
I've seen the mic clips...but I've got this "thing" about mic stands, in general: I've had a few fall on me in the past.

Not a consistent thing...and it's probably got to do with how I set them up, balance wise. But when it's a "set up/play/breakdown" 45 minute set, sometimes I don't get it right.

I just feel more comfy with a floor stand.
