Does anyone know anything about this fellow? (I saw a video link in bassfidlesteve's thread) You do not see many ukulele player's from that time period so I am assuming there must be some history on him. I thought he was a hoot and I know what he meant when he said "Only three more payments and your mine." And then he kissed his baby....groovy. Loon

From the comments on this video "Jack's real name was Edward Jackson Culpepper and his partner was Frank Salt." He also had been married to Ginger Rogers and had an act called Ginger and Pepper....... Pretty cool. Those comments led me to Wikipedia......

Here is the Wikipedia info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/index.html?curid=280945

Here is the video from bassfiddlesteve's thread about Ike.....

So, if we followed Jack Pepper's lead and lost our 1st name, took the 1st half of our middle name and the last 1/2 or so of our last name.... what would your stage name be?

I'd be Jo Iger.... doesn't really sing does it?

Pop's Bayless say's you take a physical malady, a fruit or vegetable, and the name of a president to be a blues musician... hey, it made me laugh.

Sure you do. Haven't you looked around at our uke club meetings? :)

That time period was the "1st wave" of ukulele. You actually don't see many plate spinners from that time period..... but you would have in a vaudevillian show.

Here's probably one of his first recordings. In 1924 he was 22 y.o.
A little falsetto and yodeling in the same song.

He was listening to Vernon Dalhart and old Jimmie Rogers probably among others. Thanks for telling me about this. I'd never heard him do Crazy Blues before. This is good stuff. Tanks!

I wonder if he were well enough known that The Beatles would have heard of him. Say around 1968.

The Beatles knew him when he was in the service. I beleive he was a sergeant.
