The pineapple ukulele was invented by Sam Kamaka way back when (20s?). They are usually made of koa, but sometimes monkeypod. Can you email a picture of it to me? I may know someone who would be interested in buying it. Aloha, Brudda Bu

The pineapple ahaped uke was around long before sam kamaka was. I have a carlton pineapple uke made by a an american violin maker before the turn of the century. I think sam discovered that it was much cheaper to make a uke that he did not have to bend the sides..it saved alot of money and from the story i got, which when it comes to ukes, i believe none, an employee said to sam that it looked alot like a pineapple. so there you have some more to the puzzsle. also 4 string mandolins in the shape of a pineapple were being made many many years ago. but only nutz like us care anyway...just play it and enjoy it...remember its only string and wood....chuck fayne
