Happy 2015 everyone! In 1999 I was commissioned to write a piece for ukulele and symphony orchestra. In the middle is a musical surprise that acknowledges the instruments roots. I performed the piece twice in 2014 with the Wallingford (CT) Symphony Orchestra.
Enjoy!

Really nice piece, Jim. And a nice performance too. The Walllingford Symphony is sounding great!

I like My Dog Has Fleas near the beginning and the end, along with the vocals that start about 5 minutes in. It must have taken a lot of practice to perfect that nine and a half minute arrangement. Ric

Thanks guys! Actually the recording you hear on youtube was made in the studio with me on uke/vocals and the synth orchestra programmed by Jason Nyberg, the orchestrator.

Great!

There are certain passages where your musical theater background really comes through (particularly in some of the brass parts) with an atmosphere that brings to mind house lights going down and the anticipation of the show ahead. And the vocal interlude really adds to it. Many times I've sat through new classical pieces thinking, "This is OK, but isn't someone going to come out and SING? (Or dance, maybe?)"

Is there a recording available with the Wallingford? The synth orchestra scoring works really well, but there's something about a live orchestra. Maybe it's because real orchestras do things that the synth can't, like that micro-second difference in attack among members of a section (e.g., the violin or cello sections) that adds "space" to the sound.

Bravo!

So Cool. Seriously wonderful to be able to do that and sound so good. Bravo!
