Hello! I received my Fishman Loudbox Mini Amp and finally plugged in my concert Flea with K&K Transducer. What I noticed was the squeaking and rubbing noises my fingers make when strumming or picking. Does anyone know if this is normal or if there is a way to reduce/eliminate this rubbing noise? Maybe I have bad technique? Thanks.

Edit: I use Worth Fluorocarbon Clear Light Strings

The disc type piezo elements are very sensitive. I use similar type discs as pick-ups in cigar box guitars, as do many others. I (we) typically use silicon caulking adhesive to attach them inside under the saddle area. Then put a bunch of additional caulking over the disc, completely bury it. This helps "deaden" the sensitivity some.

I wouldn't suggest using caulking on your pick-up, but anything irreversable you can do to deaden the sound some, like try 2 layers of double sticky tape, may help. Plus baby powder or Finger Ease on your hands may help reduce the squeeking.

Aquilla strings make a lot of noise. (That said, the are still my favorite strings)
Try using Worth fluorocarbon strings. You"ll notice the difference right away. They are much smoother to the touch.

It would seem a combination of string surface and playing style. And in the end, is it that bad?

In Robben Ford's recording of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" from his "Robben Ford & The Blue Line" album, there's a moment during a pause when you clearly hear his fingers squeaking up and down his guitar's fretboard before he attacks the next section of his amazing solo, as though he's so excited about what's to come that he just can't stay still before hitting the next notes. It still sends chills up and down my spine every time I listen to that moment.

So don't write off those rubbing noises!

I am using Worth Fluorocarbon strings. I changed back to the Nylon d'Adarrio strings that came with the ukulele and still had a problem. I think the texture of the skin on my strumming thumb was getting callused and contributed to the problem. I looked up the problem on guitar forums and they said to use certain products that contained mineral oil. I used a light coat of mineral oil and the problem pretty much went away!

Good to hear you got it sorted out. I believe mineral oil is the main ingredient in products like Finger Ease, Fast Fret, etc.
