Aloha, I have a William King ukulele and the model number is A4V5. Does anyone out there know how to decipher what this means? Mr. Kings website Chantus Music is gone and the phone number I had for him has been disconnected. Thanks for your help in advance. Mahalo, Jazmo

Hi Jazmo. I had ordered a custom concert from William about four or five years ago. I requested a particular body style that I liked in one of his pictures online - he said that was the A4 model, which was his own design. I don't remember anything about what the V5 could mean. If I do, I'll let you know. Good luck.

I'd corresponded with William King about nine years ago about a possible purchase. I just went through all of my correspondence to see if I could help you with any "deciphering" based on our emails. Nada.

However, you can browse through Archive.org specifying his site and see if any of his journal entries (blogs) or site details give you the info you're seeking. At https://web.archive.org/web/20110726003354/http://www.chantus.com/docs/ukes/ I found a description of A3 tenor models, N4 concert models and N5 soprano models and various options (July 11, 2011 archive). Maybe some additional poking around using the Wayback Machine will find more info for you?

I own two of Wm Kings ukes and they have no model numbers. I think most just have style names (such as nunes) or body size and wood type names.

Aloha, I heard back from William King and he said and I quote "The A4V5 designation derives from a combination of the A4 paper size upon which the body was designed to fit and the version number (Version 5), or the 5th iteration of the A4 (concert) design." Thanks Mr. King
Also thank you Ukebug and Tonya for their input.

P.S. He is building again and posted two charmers on the Marketplace 6/2016
