Sorry if this has been covered--has anyone tried these Hadean bass ukes, if so how would you compare them to Kala's?
Other that "a lot cheaper" lol.

I do not mean to direct you to other ukulele forums, but it was briefly discussed just now on Ukulelecosmos (http://www.ukulelecosmos.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=34155).
What it boils down to:
- short scale, floppy silicone strings were introduced by the 1985 Ashbory Bass.
- an improved hand made variant was developped by Road Toad (Owen Holt) around 2006: vastly better strings, a soundbox producing some acoustic sound, and a far better sounding pickup system.
- Kala started producing them under license (with a flattened 'road toad' to prove that) in 2009, to great commercial success, and leading to variants (electric, 5-strings, different tonewoods, artists models, american-made models).
- They couldn't secure a waterproof patent though, so about a dozen companies are now making them, in all kinds of flavours and sizes, but most of them trying to cheap-out the others.
Some claim to have enough acoustic volume - which they usually don't, they usually need amplification for playing in a group. Aquila's BassOne may have the larger soundbox of them all, supporting their claim.
A cosmos member having one, described the Hadean one as "a reasonable facsimile - a little buzzy, and cheaply constructed (as you'd expect) but sounds OK given a decent amp. It's not something you'd want to gig with, but if you're curious, it's worth picking up."
