We will miss Lyle Ritz. On March 3rd Lyle passed away at the age of 87. He lived a remarkable and successful musical life right into his 80s. In the pop music world he was well-known as the acoustic bassist for the famed LA studio group, The Wrecking Crew, playing on thousands of classic '60s and '70s albums like the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds." In the uke world, he's known for his two legendary late 1950s jazz ukulele albums for Verve Records. After Lyle retired from the LA studio world, he found a new home in the just emerging ukulele third wave through his songbooks, CDs, DVDs, workshops and live performances. He also had a delightfully dry sense of humor. Lyle you will be missed! |

A true master has been lifted from our community
my first cord solo (fly me to the moon) was made possible by Mr. Ritz work along side Jim and Liz Beloff, thank you.

Never met him, but his Ukulele Jazz book was a game-changer for me. Wonderful arrangements. RIP, Lyle and thank you for your contributions to music and the uke.

And thank *you,* Jim, for making Lyle's music accessible to so many of us. Who'd've thunk his "second" career would have helped so many people enjoy ukulele?
