I have a Kala 3KOA TG Tenor Ukulele that was originally strung from the factory with a low G string. Thus my ukulele nut has a larger groove in the G position than would be required for a high G string. If I later want to try a high G tuning can I simply restring with a high G string despite the larger groove in the nut and expect it to work well? Or would I need to have the nut changed on the Ukulele to one with a narrower groove to accommodate the thinner high G string? Thanks |

I would try the wider slot with the narrow string as-is. It should be fine. It likely will be that the high tension of the high G tuning will keep the string tight in the slot. I have changed a couple ukes back & forth without any issues.

My experience has been the same as deejay's. I have switched between high- and low-G with no needed modifications in the nut.
