I fell in love with the uke the same year as Jim: 1992. I started when I wanted to play it for an annual luau our meditation group had around a pool. I went to McCabe's and bought a Kamaka. I took lessons there from John Zenhder. I asked him to teach me "Little Grass Shack". His mother had taught him it when he was little. I have accompanied myself singing since then at many convalescent homes. I bought a Fluke a few years ago and play it as a sub teacher at Children Centers all over L.A. The children love it! They line up to play it. I let them pull up chairs to wait in line. The will wait patiently while I let each child play to their heart's content which can be while. It is such a sturdy instrument, I am not afraid it will break. It has passed through hundreds of children's hands!
If anyone is interested in getting together to play, let me know. I like all kinds of music.
